“I’ve always wanted to live in the suburbs, and now I can.”
From searching every day to owning his first home.
At just 22 years old, Alex has achieved a milestone he had been working towards for years – buying and moving into his first home.
After saving throughout eight years of employment, Alex was determined to enter the property market but found it increasingly difficult to find a realistic and affordable path into home ownership in a competitive market where first home buyers are feeling the pressure.
“Before using HomeSeeker SA, I was actively searching property websites every day and felt there was no hope of getting my foot in the door,” Alex said.
When he heard about HomeSeeker SA through a news story, it gave him a new place to start. Alex explored the website, which brings together affordable homes practical resources to help more South Australians understand their options for buying a home.
“Coming from no experience in the housing market, the advice and resources section was so useful. HomeSeeker SA provided a lot of valuable information and explained the different loan options available,” he said.
As a single-income earner, Alex said the information and support available through HomeSeeker SA helped him feel more confident about his options and gave him a clearer pathway into the property market. Together with the First Home Owner Grant, he chose an Advantage Loan through HomeStart Finance to purchase a home he genuinely wanted.
For Alex, receiving the keys was more than a property purchase – it was the result of years of saving, persistence and determination.
“I’ve always wanted to live in the suburbs, and now I can. Being only 15 minutes from the beach is definitely a win as well,” he said.
Alex moved into his new home in June 2026 and still remembers the excitement of receiving the keys.
“I had butterflies driving to the house and didn’t know what to expect when I opened the door. Seeing the beautiful stone benchtop and walking through my new home, I was blown away with pride in what I had bought,” he said.
While the journey was not without its challenges, Alex remained persistent.
“There were a lot of homes I missed out on. You need to be quick and regularly check the HomeSeeker SA website because properties can get snapped up very quickly,” he said.
Looking back, Alex said HomeSeeker SA helped turn what once felt out of reach into something possible, giving him the support and confidence he needed to take the next step towards home ownership.
“I would absolutely recommend HomeSeeker SA to others wanting to get into the market. My advice is to keep checking the website regularly and take advantage of the support available. Without HomeSeeker SA, I probably still wouldn’t know much about home ownership,” he said.
Today, Alex is enjoying life in his first home and the sense of achievement that comes with reaching a goal he worked towards for many years.
