Government help to buy your affordable home.

The South Australian and Federal Governments offer financial help for eligible first home buyers who are building or buying a new home – which potentially could save you tens of thousands of dollars.  

State Government support

Stamp Duty Concession

If you’re an eligible first home buyer, you’ll pay zero stamp duty when you build or buy a new home. The property value thresholds for stamp duty relief have been removed, which means the stamp duty exemption is now available for all eligible first home buyers who buy a new home (houses, flats, units, townhouses, apartments), an off-the-plan apartment, a house and land package, or vacant land to build a new home.

First Home Owner Grant (FHOG)

First home buyers may be eligible for the South Australian Government’s First Home Owner Grant. You can receive up to $15,000 if you’re buying or building a new home (house, flat, townhouse, apartment) in South Australia and you’re intending the home to be your principal place of residence. 

Low Income and Low Deposit Home Loans

$10,000 Starter Loan

If you’re finding it hard to save enough for the deposit and upfront costs to buy a home, HomeStart’s Starter Loan could provide up to $10,000. The Starter Loan has a seven-year term, with no repayments required or interest charged during those seven years.

Federal Government assistance 

The Federal Government also delivers programs that can help you buy an affordable home. 

First Home Guarantee

This is a Federal Government initiative which supports eligible first home buyers to build or buy a new home with as little as 5% deposit and without needing lenders mortgage insurance.

First Home Super Saver Scheme

The Federal Government’s First Home Super Saver Scheme allows eligible first home buyers to save money for a home by accessing the voluntary contributions you’ve made to your superannuation fund. 

Regional First Home Buyer Guarantee

A Commonwealth Government initiative to support eligible regional first home buyers purchase a home in regional areas with as little as a 5 per cent deposit and without needing lenders mortgage insurance.

Family Home Guarantee

A Commonwealth Government initiative to support eligible single parents with dependents to build a new home or purchase an existing home with as little as 2 per cent deposit and without needing lenders mortgage insurance.

Indigenous Home Loans

Simple, affordable, and personalised Indigenous Home Loan products. Additional assistance is also available to customers in remote areas or who are relocating to a remote area.
